Hey y'all!
Just kidding. I don't really have the secret. But as I battled what can only be described as the flu bug created in the science lab of Satan himself (it was bad enough for me to take about a week off of work in total to do nothing but sleep. If you know me at all, you know that's a big deal), I finally realized something that some uber influential people have been telling me for years. Rest isn't optional. It's necessary. Mental rest. Physical rest. Heck, even spiritual rest.
See, I've been having a rough time lately with loving people. Not just tolerating people with a smile and a "Jesus loves you!". But really, truly, loving them like Jesus. I definitely lost my passion for them, as well. Ya know those times when a shoulder shrug and a "meh" sum up your general attitude? Don't lie to me. I know you do ;) Let me tell ya, in a ministry that revolves around doing life with hurting people every. single. day- that's disastrous.
The best explanation that I can give is that I didn't take the time I needed to rest. Not just relax. But truly rest. As I look back on the last couple of weeks, my time away ill was (man...I hate admitting this) exactly what my heart needed. So, as I sit preparing for the next few busy weeks, I'm thanking Jesus for the blessing in disguise. He'd much rather use people with a passion for Him, I'm sure :)
On a totally different note, I've just sent out my January prayer update via email. If you're not receiving them but would like to know specific prayer requests, check out my "Prayer Team" tab and fill out the form! And, on the topic of prayer, would you lift me up in general as I go back for a full week of work tomorrow? I'm praying to draw ever-closer to Him so that I can pour out the love that He gives us. Man...I love serving Him :)
With love,
Britt
