10 days. 13 hours. 4 minutes. 30 seconds. 29. 28. 27.
I find myself refreshing the counter on my phone quite regularly these days. I'm not counting down the time until my plane takes off, though. More like just reminding myself to savour every. single. second. that I have left in this beautiful place with some of my favourite people.
The last time that I updated y'all, we were gearing up for a busy event season here at Cornerstone. The Weekend of Chaos has come to pass and boy was it a success. The logistics of it all came together (admittedly at the last second) quite nicely, making for a smooth ride. The Open Mic, while not as busy as usual, was still quite nice. There were new people, new acts, and a new MC. Lots of laughs were had, and the team was large enough that we were able to finish early and be home by midnight. Yay! I was also quite happy with the 24 Hour Prayer Event. I'm always up for an excuse to use my creative side, so I loved creating the prayer stations. I was a little worried about a lack of team at first, but God always provides. We ended up with a perfectly stacked rota. And, while not a constant stream of people, the attendance was fair. Quite frankly, I was happy if anyone besides team came out to pray for Denton Holme, St. James, the city, the country, etc. My main prayer for the 24 hour prayer event was that it would bring glory to God by simply just being there. I totally believe that it did. Several conversations about faith were had around the time of the event, people were able to pray creatively for their community, and this place was completely covered in prayer. All are wins!
This week, being my last week at work, is full of really difficult goodbyes. I had an Ignite team dinner last night (we still have one more week of street ministry, though), Boy's Club parent evening is tonight (I think this is going to be one of the most difficult goodbyes), my Leaving Party for St.James/ Cornerstone is Friday evening, and I have a homegroup farewell BBQ on Sunday afternoon. And not to mention lots of meet-ups with close friends. Whew. Just typing that triggered a tear. I'm definitely going to need prayers for these goodbyes. My heart is exhausted just thinking about how much effort all of these shin digs are going to take.
I've got the last bits of travel ironed out for the trip home. I'll be leaving Carlisle on the train to Manchester next Friday to fly out of Manchester on Saturday morning. Would you begin to pray for safe travels? It worked out quite nicely that my family will be on holiday in Alabama the week that I come home, so I'll be flying into Ft. Walton to meet them. My prayer for that first week back is that it'll be a time to readjust back to life in the States and just relax with my family in the sun. Could you lift that up with me, please?
Oh! And Happy Fourth of July! Can someone promise to blow something up for me, take a dip in a body of water (I'm not picky), and eat a piece of really sinful dessert? Ta!
With love,
Britt
